Cotton – The process to make Yarn

In India, cotton dresses are the most common cloth material. It is light and allows the air to come in and also absorb sweat from our body. This cloth can also be dye with any color easily and also easy to wash. Hence cotton clothes are ideal for regular use in a warm climate of India.

We get cotton from the plant. It gets collect in a warm climate with medium rainfall. It starts growing between May and September month. The harvesting begins in October. As the soil type, the black soil is set up in western and southern India like Gujarat, Maharashtra is ideal for this. Plant in northern India, the cotton plant grows well in alluvial soil in Punjab.

The process from Cotton to Yarn:

Cotton fruits burst open after manufacturing the seeds which are cover with the cotton fiber. The fiber gets separate from the seeds in a very simple way. A person takes a big comb with wire-like metal teeth and combs the cotton ball. The seeds get stuck in the comb, while the fibers get separate.

In Indian villages a hand darkly or spindle and a spinning wheel or shriek area used for it. The father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi uses to make yarn in a Charkha for his clothes. Nowadays electric driven machines get to use for making yarn. The clothing is manufacture by the weaving process.


Two sets of yarn are employing before making the cotton cloth arrangement. If we look at the cloth closely, we will find that the yarns are interlace at a right angle and overlap over each other to form an interesting pattern.

In Indian villages handloom is employing for the making of cotton cloth. In a nutshell, first cloth seeds are separate from cloth fruit. This step is familiar as ginning. Cotton yarn is acquire by the spinning of the cloth fiber by using Hand Spindle, Charkha, or Machines. By weaving the yarns we get the employ for making different clothes.
