Civil Engineering Subjects – Engineer explains

One of the oldest engineerings in the world is civil engineering and the operation can be traced back to where the time when men decided to put the roof over the head for shelter. Civil engineering is one of the evergreen branches of engineering. There are various subjects in civil engineering courses for different semesters.

Surveying:

Surveying is one of the topics of civil engineering and the study is about the types of surveying in the units, error, precision, and accuracy. Leveling is a part of Surveying.

Strength of Material:

The strength of the material which is also known as Solid Mechanics deals with the behavior of the solid object subjected to stress and strain. It includes the method of calculating the stress and the strain in structural members like beams, columns and the shafts which are known as mechanics of material.

Building material and Construction Technology:

This subject is to only give the brief description of the different types of materials used in the building construction for the members like foundation, masonry, arches, lintels, balcony, roof, doors, windows, stairs, plastering, painting, and the other general topics.

Geology in civil engineering:

Geology is the study of earth and its constituent and its structure. The main deals are with rock, its information, types, stresses, and deformation. “Rock as building material” explain its properties.

Concrete Technology:

In Civil Engineering the concrete technology deals with the deals with all the information related to concrete.

Structural Analysis:

This is the subject which is studied in two parts. First is that it deals with the analysis of the structural members like beams, columns, frames, trusses, arches, and the cables when the load is applied.

Building planning and drawings:

This subject is based on the drawings. The presentation of geometrical drawings of the components of the building, elevations, plans, and the cross-sections.

Design Drawings and RCC Structures:

The design of RCC Structural members like beams, slabs, columns, footing, and the staircase. In drawing the part consists of the detailed drawings of all the designed members.

Geotechnical and Foundation:

This subject is related to the concept related to the soil. The topic of classification of the soil, index properties, shear strength, compaction and the consolidation of the soil is to study under the subject.

Hydrology and Irrigation in civil engineering:

In Hydrology topics like precipitation, ran gauges, losses from the precipitation, hydrography and the estimate of the flood and the flood routing are studies. There are topics like soil water crop relation, irrigation, the requirement of water for crops and the canals.

Transport Engineering:

Transportation engineering involves the study of highway engineering, railway engineering, airport, and harbors.

Design and Drawing of Steel Structure:

The design of the steel structure consists of topics like design of bolted connections, the welded connections, tension members, compression members, columns and the beams. The drawing provides detailed connections, columns and column bases.

Estimation and Evaluation in Civil Engineering:

This subject helps to understand the construction estimates, the cost of materials, labor and the other factors. The work-related estimation is important to know as the cost required for the construction project.

Air Pollution and Control:

The topics related to air pollution, the effects of air pollution, metrological variables are been briefly studied. The topics like pollution due to automobiles, environmental issues, and importantly the environmental legislation are also been studied here.

Highway Geometric Design:

This subject is to explain the design of highways. The topics like sight distance, horizontal alignment, vertical alignment, intersection design, Rotary intersection, and the Highway drainage design is studied in this subject.

Environmental Impact Assessment:

The Environmental Impact Assessment is a tool for achieving sustainable development. It involves the process of predicting and evaluating potential impact with the development project.

Computerization technology:

The AutoCAD, MS Office, Staad Pro and the other are practiced for the drawings and the analysis of the different structural members.

Fluids Machines:

This subject completely deals with the fluids, properties of fluid, pressure, kinematic flow, dynamic flow, pipe flow, discharge measurements, depth and the viscosity measurement of the fluids are being studied here.

Design of Pre-Stressed Concrete Structure:

The subject in which the material is used in prestressed concrete, the principle of prestressing, analysis of sections for flexure, losses in prestress, deflection and limit state of collapse.

Ground Improvement Techniques in Civil engineering:

Civil Engineering helps in topics like different types of ground improvements, compaction, hydraulic modification, fringe and preloading, chemical modification, and grouting with the other miscellaneous methods used as the ground improvement.
